Self Study 3

This week in Unity we learn how to make a Terrain for our project and how to use ProBuilder to make buildings within unity.

Terrain:

Making a terrain was quite simple, all you had to do was install the unity terrain tool for your project, and create a terrain. Then you had lots of different options or raising or lowering the hight of the terrain, you could also texture it to make it look a bit more realistic. As well as you could paint the terrain multiple different colours. In the terrain settings you could also make trees and use it to place trees in clumps on the terrain. I didn't do that, I imported my trees in from TurboSquid. I also added a couple more bits to my Tasmanian Tourist attraction to make it a bit more realistic to look at, such as the big platform underneath it, the walking paths that allow you to walk around it, and the surrounding trees. (Not that it looks very realistic anyway). I used the ProBuilder to make my paths and the platform underneath the statue.

ProBuilder:

I used a tutorial to work out how to use Unity's ProBuilder,  MODELING IN UNITY?! - ProBuilder Tutorial. I found this video really helpful, and it made understanding using the ProBuilder so much easier to use, as I had never used it before. Our task was to make a building to add to our Tasmanian Tourist attraction, and I chose to make the little old stadium seating near the Hobart Cenotaph, although I have to admit my stadium seating looks a lot more basic then the actual building, but that's ok because I have come to realise modelling is not my strong suit.

The chairs that I used for the building are also taken from TurboSquid. I mainly just used stairs and cubes to make this building.

I have to say that this self study wasn't that hard this time, I would have liked to make a more complicated building, but alas time is too short and when you have uni it gets even shorter :)

Even though using the ProBuilding is like modelling in 3D Studio Max (Which I really liked modelling in), I do have to say that I prefer Modelling in Blender and exporting the files, even though 90% of the time Blender wishes to be my mortal enemy.
