Devlog1 : Lighting Up the Path
This week, our focus was on setting up the foundation for the next stages of the project. We started laying the groundwork for our main character and zombie models, scene setup, camera system, and environmental assets. After a team discussion, we agreed to begin with modeling both the main character and the enemy zombie. Our goal for these first couple of weeks is to develop a solid low-poly aesthetic, and we've now created an early version of the main character using Blender. The current model is quite simple, but it gives us enough to start integrating it into Unity. As the project progresses, we plan to refine and add more detailed features to both character and enemy models.
Using ProBuilder, we've also created a basic 5x5 arena as a test space for movement and gameplay, and the third-person camera view has now been implemented. Additionally, Scene 2 and Scene 3 have been added for Levels 2 and 3. After some discussion, we decided that Scene 3 will feature a maze, giving us flexibility if we want to experiment or simplify later on.
As part of the world-building, we’ve started modeling small environmental assets, starting with a streetlight. The goal was to create something lightweight to match the low-light aesthetic of the game. The model is intentionally simple, as the lighting will mostly be handled in Unity where we can bake in the light for better performance. Materials haven’t been applied yet, but they’re planned for the next week.
On the coming weeks we will continue on the animation fro the main character, adding some enviromental assets and start implementing the player movement and weapon mechanics (codes).
We are up to solid start and excited to see the game taking shape!!!
